Thomas Chalmers [1780- 1847] was a Scottish theologian & preacher. Born in Anstruther in Fife,educated at St Andrews University. Chalmers taught Mathematics and Chemistry at St Andrews. He became minister of the Tron Parish Church in Glasgow where his magnificent oratory took the city by storm. In 1833 his “Bridgewater Treaty appeared . In 1843 Chalmers led the Disruption when he, followed by 470 ministers seceded from The Church of Scotland over a mammoth struggle over patronage. They founded the Free Church of Scotland .He was the first Moderator at their Assembly and Principal of the Free Church College. His works all deal with natural theology , apologetics and social economy . As an orator Chalmers was unrivalled.      SOLD

The whole contained in a padded blue satin solander box with drop leaf side in dark blue calf with a small brass fastener. The fastener has caused a split in the leather but it is without doubt the nicest example of a presentation Book of Common Prayer we have seen. 

There is a gift inscription to Sarah Jones from her aunt. dated 1866. It is a beautiful feminine gift. It was sold by G.F Dew Bookseller Leamington and bears their discrete ticket on the endpaper.

Published in the Late 19 th century ,[1890], the decorated marriage and family temperance pledge,births deaths  plates are  unmarked and fresh ,family portrait pages there, but a couple of small  tears to a two or three  pages of text.  Overall in Very Good condition   Internally  very good bright condition and the plates and maps are all very fresh.

No publishers name though both decorative and non decorative title pages are present. It is however an American Edition .
